Visiting Aburi Botanical Gardens: The Ultimate Day Trip from Ghana

 

Hello Lovelies! how have you been? I know, I know it’s been a minute, life happened. However, can we talk about my vacation to Accra, Ghana. I recently took a short, much needed break from my daily routine, I travelled with a few family members. If you know what my daily routine is like, you’d know this was a well deserved trip, short but worth it. I’d discuss in my subsequent post what and what happened at the airport.

Honestly, my original plan was to simple eat, sleep and lounge by the pool. But since it wasn’t a solo trip, my family dragged me out to explore and I’m glad I did get out. Our first stop was Aburi Botanical Gardens. Even though it was a long drive from where we were staying, it was worth every minute. The moment we paid our entry fees and stepped inside, the view took my breath away. It felt like walking straight into the Garden of Eden! No cap.

Aburi Botanical Gardens is tucked away in the Eastern Region of Ghana, with a rich history dating back to colonial times, it even helped kick-start Ghana’s cocoa and rubber production back in1890’s.

We skipped the tour guide and explored the grounds on our own, and guess what? I actually found that famous place from Tiktok, you know, the one where those dark muscular guys give outdoor massages. The garden is a stunning mix of native and exotic plants. We spotted everything from nutmeg, cocoa trees and so many more. It’s such a peaceful spot, perfect for a picnic with friends or a family gathering.

Dress comfortably when coming to this place, cause you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Words and photos honestly do not do this place justice, you have to step foot here yourself to truly experience God’s craftsmanship. Naturally, I snapped plenty of pictures to capture the magic, after taking it all in, we grabbed a bite to eat, I treated myself to fresh palm wine, chilled coconut water, and some delicious grilled meat. They even have gorgeous, ready to wear local outfits for sale right on the site.

We actually had to wrap things up early because my feet were aching, and we needed to save energy for our next stop: the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (check my subsequent post). I definitely plan to return sometime in the future and explore more. I need to see the ‘Tree of life’ and check out the famous abandoned helicopter.
