BEYOND ROMANTIC LOVE: THE IMPORTANCE OF FRIENDSHIP ON VALENTINE'S DAY

Hello Lovelies, wishing you a Happy New Month! As we step into the month of love, I'm reminded of the importance of celebrating another profound kind of love - the love of friendship. Let's take a moment to appreciate our dear friends and shower them with love and appreciation this season.

Valentines day originated from the ancient Roman and Christian traditions. While it’s commonly associated with romantic love, the holiday’s roots also emphasize the importance of friendship, loyalty and devotion. In modern times, Valentine's day had evolved to encompass various forms of love, including platonic love. Friendships are a vital part of our lives, providing emotional support, companionship, and a sense of belonging.

Why friendships matter on Valentine’s Day

Friends are often our chosen family: Friends can provide a sense of belonging and support, especially for those who may not have a romantic partner or biological family nearby. In the absence of a family a friend is always near by to share secrets, lend a listening ear and so on.

Friendships can be just as meaningful as romantic relationships: it can bring joy, comfort and a sense of connection to our lives. Just like romantic love, friendships involve care, affection, and true devotion.

How do you celebrate friendship on Valentine’s Day

1. Exchange gifts or cards: show your friends you care with a thoughtful gift or heartfelt card. I recall my university days when my closest friend and I would exchange gifts on nearly every occasion, including Christmas, New Year's and many more. That was how we appreciated each other. So, no matter how small, appreciate your friends.

2. Plan a fun activity: Try a new restaurant, sign up for a sip and paint class or host one at home, treat yourselves to a relaxing day of pampering and self care or other spa treatments.

3. Galentine’s Day Celebration: Host a brunch, dinner or movie night with your closest friends. Pack a basket with your favorite foods and enjoy a picnic in a park.

4. Game Night / Karaoke Night: Sing out your hearts out at a local karaoke bar and/or host a game night with board games, card games or even video games.

Valentine’s Day is not just about romantic love, it is also a celebration of the meaningful relationships in our lives, including friendships. By acknowledging and honoring these relationships, we can deepen our connections and cultivate a sense of love and appreciation that extends beyond romantic partnerships.  Remember the most important thing is to spend quality time with your friends and make the day special and meaningful to all of you.

What plans do you have for Valentine’s Day?

  3. I agree that it's important to celebrate our friendships on Valentine's Day. We should always let our friends know how important they are and how much they matter to us. My husband and I don't celebrate Valentine’s Day since we try to express our love every day.

  29. I think it's really cool that friends also celebrate Valentine's Day, here in Brazil it's not like that and generally those who don't have a partner are extremely sad and upset at this time of year.
