LAGOS CAKE PICNIC FESTIVAL

I’m thrilled to share that I attended the very fist cake picnic in Lagos, Nigeria. This cake picnic was inspired by similar events in countries like Malaysia, Canada, Ghana, Kenya and etc, which caught my interest on Tiktok. I jumped at the chance to experience it firsthand. Thank to my sister’s invite, we went with our mutual friend and the kids for a fun filled day of cake, laughter and adventure.

We arrived early at the venue, only to find out that ‘African time’ was in full swing. The organizers created two types of ticket: cake bringers and non - cake bringers. We were part of the cake bringers, we brought two beautiful cakes. Although the event started a tad late, we snapped some pictures of the cakes and made a swift exit, considering our long journey through Lagos traffic.

Little did we know, the real drama unfolded later. A few days after, Tiktok videos started surfacing, revealing a chaotic cake tasting session. It seemed like pandemonium broke loose. Cake bringers left frustrated that they couldn’t even taste their own cake.

I feel the event could’ve benefited from a bit more planning. Perhaps next time, everyone should bring a cake even if it is store bought to balance things out, and should be boldly written on the ticket 'No cake, no entry'. Let’s hope the next cake picnic will be a success.

Talk to you in my next post, be you, be kind, stay blessed and remain humble.

  1. Wow! So many beautiful cake. Well, too bad the event didn't turn out well in the end.

  2. Your idea of a "No cake, no entry" rule is brilliant! It would certainly add to the excitement and guarantee that everyone has a stake in the outcome. Perhaps they could even have a separate, designated tasting area just for the cake bringers to ensure they get to try the fruits of their labor.

  4. These cakes are all so beautiful! You have so many talented bakers in your area! I'm in awe. Too bad about the tasting. I like your no cake no entry idea or maybe only being able to try a limited number of cakes. I hope it runs more smoothly in the future.

  5. Such a lovely event, Benita! It's easy to see that the cake picnic festival was held in a beautiful location. Congrats on the bakers, as those cakes seem delicious. My favourite is the one with slices of kiwi on top. Nice post :-)
