Hello Lovelies, it’s been a minute, anyway welcome to the month of August. Hope we are all doing good. I've put together some general unspoken rule (not an exhaustive list) I feel everyone should know.
What unspoken rule do you feel everyone should know about? Drop them in the comment section.
1. Respect is a two way thing, treat others with respect. Reciprocating respect it’s not a sign of weakness but a true reflection of your own character.
2. You are not always right, everyone sees things differently, and that’s okay. Acknowledge other’s opinion and show them respect, you do not have to agree to understand to understand their point of view. Remember 2=2 = 4, likewise 3=1=4.
3. When you borrow money, pay it back as soon as possible. Your relationship with the person does not excuse your responsibility and they shouldn't have to chase you for it. This way you’d build trust.
4. When someone is kind enough to let you stay in their home, a little gesture goes a long way. Offer to pitch in on groceries, house chores, and be sure to respect their house rules and curfew.
5. Never take advantage of kind/good people
6. Always say thank you after a service has been rendered. It is common courtesy.
7. A secret shared in confidence should stay a secret, even if the friendship ends. Do not betray someone's trust just because you’ve had a fall out.
8. Avoid asking deep personal questions like, ‘’Why aren't you married?’’ or ‘’Why don’t you have kids or more kids?’’? Understand it is not your story to know unless they choose to share it.
9. Put your phone away when someone is talking to you. Constantly checking your phone is disrespectful and makes the other person feel unimportant.
10. When visiting a sick friend or family member, consider bringing a small girt like a basket of fruit or a home cooked meal to cheer them up.

True. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteThese are all really great points. It's so important to remember these simple courtesies. I especially agree with #9—it's so disrespectful when someone is on their phone while you're talking to them. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteTotally disrespectful. Thanks Mel.
DeleteSo true Benita. I agree with them all. :-D Hope you are well :-D

ReplyDeleteFirstly, respect. I agree on this. As you mentioned, never take advantage of kind people. I have noticed many people don't understand the rule number 9 about mobile phone. Many people see their mobile phone's screen while someone is talking to them. We have to listen in a respectful way.
Great post today, Benita.
It's definitely frustrating when you're talking to someone and they're more focused on their phone than on the conversation. It makes you feel like what you're saying doesn't matter or worse, you don't matter. Putting your phone away and giving giving someone your full attention is a simple but powerful way to show them you care about them and what they have to say.
DeleteThanks for stopping by Giorgio.
Excellent post, with important tips on good manners that we should all follow.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, many people forget these rules of good manners. I have a family member who spends all his time checking his phone whenever we meet; it's incredibly unpleasant.
All the best for you
It's frustrating when people forget those basic rules of courtesy. It's especially tough when it's a family member that you're trying to connect with, and their attention is elsewhere.
DeleteI do think people should put their phones away more.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I concur to this.
Deletehonestly i hate borrowing money
ReplyDeleteLol, I dislike it as well.
DeleteThese are all great! I think a lot of people forget their manners these days. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
DeleteThese are great unspoken rules.
ReplyDeleteI think saying - Thank you - is so important.
We should say it as often as possible.
A simple thank you can really go a long way.
You can never go wrong with being polite.
Politeness makes life easier. It is a skill that should not be forgiven.
Politeness has a way of melting away people's stress or bad mood.
Good manners really are important. As the British say- manners make a man.
I also agree that it is lovely to bring a small present or a home made meal when we visit someone, especially if they are sick or feeling unwell.
In Slavic culture, it is customary to always bring a small present to our host, often something sweet, desserts or coffee.
We also give presents to people at work or people working in customer support or just working with people. For example, people here will often gift chocolate, coffee, flowers or perfumes to nurses and doctors. It is a way of saying thank you.
I completely agree with you about the importance of putting our phone aways when we're in someone's company.
I love your point about the power of a simple "thank you." It's so true—it costs nothing and can completely brighten someone's day. I lived in Russia for some years and I am familiar with this Slavic culture. The idea of politeness as a way of "melting away people's stress" is something we could all use a little more of.
Delete...Amen, sister!

Thank you Julie.
DeleteThese are indeed great reminders, number 5 and 6 are really important and apt.
ReplyDeleteThank you Alisha.
DeleteI agree that respect is a two-way street, and that's a rule that everyone should live by. It really does say a lot about a person's character. I'd add that respecting people's time is also incredibly important. Showing up on time and not canceling last minute shows that you value them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a small action that speaks volumes about how much you value them and their schedule. It shows that you're reliable and that their time is just as important as your own.
DeleteI love all of these! Thank you for sharing!

DeleteYes to all of these! Simple kindness really is quite simple and it all boils down to treating other the way you'd like to be treated. That one about respect hits home too because I noticed that sometimes adults don't treat kids/ younger generation with respect and then get annoyed or upset when they aren't treated as nicely as they want to be by the kids they were rude or disrespectful to themselves!
ReplyDeleteIt really goes to show that respect is a two-way street, and that rule applies no matter the age difference. When we model the behavior we want to see, it makes a huge difference.
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI have many examples of all this advice from people who didn't have that education with me!
Happy weekend
